Book Publishing Guidelines

We are always look to improve, so if you have any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you are submitting, a hardcopy, please reference the below address and make sure you have read the submissions page first. Those submissions that do not follow the guidelines will not be reviewed.

What We're Looking For By Genre

Fiction (General)

VMG publishes a wide variety of authors and titles. It is paramount that books have a strong narrative with developed characters that evoke and engage. We are currently accepting both agented and non-agented manuscripts. Here is a list of fiction we will NOT consider:

  • Inspirational or religious;
  • Works of Poetry
  • Early reader (Nothing under middle grade)
  • Extremely offensive topics

Romance

This is the place for die hard romantics, where love rules and happily ever afters will likely abound. This is not a sub-genre specific imprint so feel free to submit Chick Lit, Paranormal, Historical, Western, LGBT and anything else you can think of. The only stipulation is that romance must be the at heart of the narrative. Pay attention to chemistry between characters and they can be playful, snarky and/or dark. The sky’s the limit here. If the story contains graphic love scenes perhaps Push might be a better choice. It doesn’t have to be clean, but it shouldn’t offend those who are averse to intense and detailed sexual situations and vulgarities. If you are unsure as to what category your fiction falls under, feel free to reach out to us via the contact page. Otherwise, check follow the submissions rules and send it over to our Senior Acquisitions Editor.

Non-Fiction

Currently we are accepting non-fiction pieces that tell a story based on real life, along with historical, travel and memoir, how too’s especially on the topic of writing. If you feel your work isn’t represented, please send a short synopsis (1 paragraph to us via the contact page). However, there are several genres we are not considering:

  • college reference and study aids
  • general self-help/psychology
  • business
  • Finance
  • parenting and special needs parenting
  • health
  • reference
  • education

Young Adult

Dash is the YA imprint and we do except some middle grade works as well. We are interested in almost anything; from upper YA that stretches past the squeaky clean and sticks a toe into the realm of new adult, to books geared toward Junior High school boys. This is not genre specific but it must have an appropriate voice for the intended demographic. Story arc’s must be engaging and thought provoking and upper YA should (not always) appeal to crossover audiences. Again, please read our submission guidelines before sending Sara your work

Erotic

We want to push bounds and break free of the mold that constantly force-feeds regurgitated stories. That doesn’t mean we are always going to be stepping outside the box – there’s a reason those books do so well – but we want to produce a solid triple threat. Sexy, sultry and captivating narratives; brilliant writing that entices the reader into a world they won’t want to escape and deep, thought out characterization. If you have written an erotic manuscript and are interested in submitting please check out our guidelines and submit it to our acquisitions master
